In the heart of the Plateau Mont-Royal, Kadampa Meditation Centre Montreal (KMCM) is the mother centre of the New Kadampa Tradition – International Kadampa Buddhist Union (NKT-IKBU) in Québec. It is a not-for-profit organization whose aim is to spread Buddha’s wisdom and the solutions to our contemporary problems. A vast array of classes and courses which suit beginners and more advanced practitioners are offered daily.

Everyone, regardless of their level of experience or background, can benefit from the classes & courses offered at KMC Montreal. They provide a basic introduction to Buddhist teachings and meditations. All classes include guided meditations as well as practical advice, on a specific topic. Retreats & Events
These half or full day courses provide practical advice on a variety of topics such as improving our relationships, developing confidence, coping with stress and anxiety or dealing with anger, just to name a few. All courses are crafted to help us see how to incorporate meditation and Buddhist principles into our daily life to learn to solve our problems and worries and become happier and more peaceful individuals.
Retreats are a perfect opportunity to take a break from the frantic daily rhythm, to slow down and to discover all the benefits of meditation and Buddhist teachings in the oasis of peace which is KMC Montreal. Retreats vary in length from one to 10 days and can often be attended ‘à la carte’ to suit our busy modern life.
Festivals & others
Kadampa Dharma Celebrations and Festivals are the most important events organized by the NKT. These events are open to everyone, regardless of age, faith, culture or gender. They provide a precious opportunity to study and practise the special instructions given by senior teachers of the tradition. Geshe Kelsang Gyatso has designed 3 unique Study Programs especially suited for people of this modern world: General Program (GP), Foundation Program (FP) and Teacher Training Program (TTP). GP includes all the above-mentioned basic courses (Learn to Meditate, Meditation & Buddhism, guided meditations…), weekend courses, events and retreats. These are on a drop-in basis and require no pre-requisites or commitment from students. FP & TTP are not drop-in classes, include certain commitments and enrolment is required.
Foundation Program (FP)
The purpose of the FP is to provide a systematic study of particular subjects of Mahayana Buddhism with the same group for an entire year. Through strengthening our daily practice in this way, we develop our wisdom, kind heart and ways to maintain a happy, peaceful mind. Each class comprises of prayers, meditation, a commentary to Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso book on study and a pair discussion. Teacher Training Program (TTP)
The purpose of the Teacher Training Programme is to provide an extensive presentation of particular subjects of Mahayana Buddhism to enable practitioners to deepen their knowledge and experience of Buddhism, and to train as qualified New Kadampa Tradition Teachers.
